Can you recommend me a good American recipes cookbook?

a good basic one is either "The Betty Crocker Cookbook" or the "The Better Homes & Gardens Cookbook." Both come in a 3-ring binder, and have basic as well as ramped-up recipes, lots of how-to and finished dish photos. Either of these are a standard gift for new brides, or people just getting out on their own.
