Im having trouble with this girl and i need some help, please?

so i love this girl and we’ve gone out on and off but she keeps going back to her ex boyfriend for some reason. i’ve told her that its really hard to get over your ex boyfriend if you continue to talk to him. am i right? anyway, the other day she told me that shes still in love with him but that shes not going back to him right now. but she asked if we could just be friends for right now so after some talking about it, i agreed. so we suppose to be friends right now but shes talking to me like we are actually talking again. shes telling me i have a nice smile and she loves my laugh and she gives me all these compliments. and we talk a lot and when we have to go, she doesnt wanna stop talking. and she also told me that her ex b/f is acting a lot different now and she doesnt like it. so it seemed like to me shes coming back to me a little bit. well i was giving her a lot of compliments tonight and saying i cant wait to see her friday and sweet stuff and then she said “i thought you were gonna stop saying stuff like that haha” and i said “whys it a problem? haha” and she said “cause you said you would just be my friend” and i said “yea your right but i also said that i still like you” and she said “yea i know” so i told her that i feel like a dumb now and she told me to not feel that way and that it was alright she promises! so im like really confused and any advice about my situation would be great!
