Breakup over cancer diagnosis?

I have recently had two cervical biopsies for some abnormalities found on previous tests. In between these two surgeries I became close to a guy and we began dating. He wanted to be in a relationship with me and I really wanted that, it seemed possible. Problem is, i got a diagnosis back of positive for cancer cells, or seed of cancer for which i need to undergo a short treatment. I really don't want to put this guy through this and I'm wondering if I should break up with him or if I should ask of him to bear with this treatment. It just doesn't seem fair to me especially because we don't have what i would call a real solid relationship yet. Any ideas? Serious answers only please, there is too much overwhelming me right now, thanks.
